Two-Storey BigSteelBox Structure Housed on a Barge off BC Coast
BigSteelBox Structures recently completed a 2-storey structure for the Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC), an emergency response organization that mitigates the environmental impact of marine oil spills in order to protect the oceans, wildlife and the public.
What is so unique about this structure is that it is housed on a barge, just off the coast of BC, so it had to be completely self-contained. And, since BigSteelBoxes are composed of corten corrugated steel and built to withstand the heavy abuse and constant movement of ocean travel, they were the perfect material for this structure!
The building was structurally engineered out of four 40-foot shipping containers and features two bathrooms, a lunch room, a patio, an open upper floor/common area, and water and septic tanks on board.

Benefits of Building with Steel
For mobile structures on remote worksites, building with steel makes sense when compared to wood-frame construction.
BigSteelBoxes are built for ocean shipping and withstanding the elements, so they're much more solid, durable and stackable than trailers.
