Mobile Labs for the Energy Industry
Many companies in the energy industry require mobile laboratories in order to conduct testing in the field, and it’s common for onsite labs to come with a number of design specifications to meet health and safety guidelines. BigSteelBox Structures is able to customize each of the units we construct to meet our customers’ needs. It's because of this design flexibility that many companies in the energy industry have chosen to have us build their portable labs.
Building with steel shipping container technology offers a number of advantages that make sense when you consider the harsh climates and wear and tear that these buildings will encounter in the field. Plus. we’re able to equip our mobile labs with almost any item, finish or safety feature our customers request.
For example, a mobile lab we recently completed for an energy company in northern Alberta included checkered stainless steel flooring with fully welded seams, explosion proof (Class 1 Division 2) electrical wiring, stainless steel work surfaces, a ventilated fume hood, a flammable storage cabinet, and a pre-varnished plywood wall finish.
This unit is also Part 10 Certified, which means it is certified under Part 10 of the Alberta Building Code to meet or exceed the guidelines established by the Government of Alberta for re-locatable industrial accommodations. Check out the photos of our latest mobile lab below:

Benefits of Building with Steel
For mobile structures on remote worksites, building with steel makes sense when compared to wood-frame construction.
BigSteelBoxes are built for ocean shipping and withstanding the elements, so they're much more solid, durable and stackable than trailers.
